In a world of wall décor and Pinterest boards titled "Live, Laugh, Love," I found myself inexplicably drawn to a ceramic flower that looked straight out of a fever dream populated by ranunculuses. It was turquoise – not the elegant turquoise of a peacock, but the aggressive turquoise of an 80s bathroom accessory that refused to die.

My mother, upon seeing it hanging on the wall, asked if I was "going through something." She always assumed the slightest deviation from traditional décor was a sign of existential crisis. In reality, I was oddly fascinated by artificial flowers, especially ones that don't try to be realistic. This one was fastened by a keyhole notch, which sounds more sophisticated than "a hole in the back to hang it on a nail hoping it doesn't fall off."
